“ The Reluctant Fundamentalist” directed by Mira Niar, and screen play written by William Wheeler.
The movie based on racism and The American dream of the young man Changez Khan, he is Muslim and his dream is to be a good reluctant fundamentalist in New York. Starting of the movie is very good with Urdu Kavvali. The meaning of fundamentalism used in two way first as business and other is terrorism . He tell whole story through one interview by Boby Lincon. This movie present the incident of 9/11. In bollywood “New York” movie also made on the same subject but not that much good .
Changez was did very hard work , but the company get only profit from him. At the end people and his colleges also look at him as a “ Pakistani”. He was frustrated because without mistake polish arrest him, once on airport polish necked him and checked him because he was Muslim. He had relation with Erica and once he talked about marriage at that time she suddenly asked him that,
“ Would I have to wear burkha"?
It’s suggest the mentality of American women towards the Muslim’s women. And after the attack of 9/11 the whole life of the Changez was change. He still love America but their people hate him, and Islam and loved only their nation. After 9/11 he started keeping beard, before he was a clian shaved and that’s why people look at him as a terrorist though he not. He left America and lived in Lahore and worked as professor in college. He felt like “ Other”. He was marginalized there. He can’t fulfilled his dream.
The lyrics of all songs are very beautiful as well as effectively present with particular scene, so we feel it very well. This movie is worth to watch , it’s present colonial human mind and racism and “ Islamophobia”.
“ Here me out, o lord”
Muslims are regarded as people who can never successfully assimilate into western societies, or who are culturally conditioned to be violent, ideas that dominated the media coverage of Islam after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in the United States on 11 September 2001. ( Colonialism/ Post colonialism by Ania Loomba )
Market fundamentalism destroys more human lives than any other simply because it cuts across all national, cultural, geographic, religious and other boundaries. And globalization is just another name for submission and domination. ( Colonialism/ Post colonialism by Ania Loomba )
Thanks.
