Talk with Gujrati Writer Dr. Mahendrasinh Parmar on short story - Polytechnic

Image may contain: 1 person, standing

On the 15th September 2017, Department of English, MK Bhavnagar University  organized  one good  session with the Gujarati Short stories writer Dr. Prof. Mehendrasinh Parmar, he is head of the Department of Gujarati, MK Bhavnagar University.

He came last year in sem – 1 also , at that time he talked on his short story “ Intellectual   Indubhai”.  This time he talked on three  stories written by him,

1)      Polytechnic
2)      Have kai polytechnic
3    3)     Udancharakhakladi

When he started his talked at that time first he talked that how many troubles came during the publication of these stories. Because some editors likes and some don’t like. Because the subject of this story is very trivial like suchalau ( Toilet) Thee stories wrote in 2002 and so all stories written before 15 years, which are published in “ Sabadsrusti” of Gujrat shahitya Akadami.  Movie ‘ Toilet ek Premkatha’  came on  2017 and one Gujrati film “ Pay and use” also came. When we read these stories at that time we realized that how many things are same . But  when I read the original stories at  that time I enjoyed a lot, I felt esthetic delight, because how beautifully he wrote these.  very beautifully he describe the some area of Bhavnagar like AV School, Gadechi Vadla, Panvadi etc. He  wrote this problem in comic way but in deep we find the reality and bitter truth of our society.  He wrote well on that social problem. It is more related to the “ Swachata Abhiyan” .This story like “ Art for Life sake”.  This is the real canon of literature it’s challenge by new way of writing.  His stories at one level connect with the term comedy of menace. We can say that these story came in post modernism also.

So, I am very thankful to Dr. Prof. Dilip Barad that he provide such a wonderful opportunity and thanks Mahendra sir to give a such a fruitful knowledge.

Post viewing Task of The Birthday Party

Respected Sir,

Image result for images of Birthday party by Harold Pinter

Here is my response to the given post – viewing Tasks of The Birthday Party by Harold Pinter

1 )Why are two scenes of Lulu omitted from the movie?

Ans – As per my understending,  two scenes of Lulu are omitting in the play because Pinter try to highlighted the situation of women. That how Lulu abused by men and she became the victim. Othervise we can't say something other because the writer not clearly justify or portreyed  his intention of this charecter.

2 ) Is movie successful in giving us the effect of menace? Where you able to feel it while reading the text?

Ans – Still i not read the orignal text of the play, but movie is successful in creating the effects or the felling of menace.  When we screening the play at that time time and again this effects creat through voice of knocking the door, heatch of the door, tearing the paper , sound of water, airoplan, certain , vassals , sound of drume , brithing and camera's movement. Even through pause and silense of the diloghue also very important.

3) Do you feel the effect of lurking danger while viewing the movie? Where you able to feel the same while reading the text

Ans – while watching movie i felt  lurking danger when Goldberg and Mccan dilogued with stenley, and some time the behaviouer of stenly also creat lurking danger. And techincal variation like sound  and camera work also helped to creat this in movie.

4) What do you read in 'newspaper' in the movie? Petey is reading newspaper to Meg, it torn into pieces by McCain, pieces are hidden by Petey in last scene.

Ans -  Newspaper -  use as a non verbal devic in movie very effectivly. In the movie two charecters used well. First the charecter of Petey- he allways busy with reading newspaper , and it's symbolicaly represents two way, first he try to hide himself through newspaper. Means he don't want to take interast in real situation. Second is it's shows that he was very responsibal person of the socity, he try to be come more aware of the world and he knows everything which is made in and around him, but his wife not know anything . On the other side the charecter of Mccann used newspaper  to creat the detective atmospher and for frightend the Stanley , though it is trivel.

5) Camera is positioned over the head of McCain when he is playing Blind Man's Buff and is positioned at the top with a view of room like a cage (trap) when Stanley is playing it. What interpretations can you give to these positioning of camera?

Ans – Through the positioning of camera over the head of Mccain when he is playing Blind Man's Buff and camera positioned at the top with a view of room like cage it's symobolicaly represent that we are blind and live in a cage means in four walls and they first proof and thay play. It is highly satier on human and society.

6) "Pinter restored theater to its basic elements: an enclosed space and unpredictable dialogue, where people are at the mercy of one another and pretense crumbles." (Pinter, Art, Truth & Politics: Excerpts from the 2005 Nobel Lecture). Does this happen in the movie?

Ans – Yes , it is very well shown in play, that each and every one give mercy to one another but it just pretense, at last no one help no body . All busy in their own world.

7)  How does viewing movie help in better understanding of the play ‘The Birthday Party’ with its typical characteristics (like painteresque, pause, silence, menace, lurking danger)?

Ans – Yes, movie helps a lot to understand this play, through the sound , camera movement and other techniques . We feel the situation of the play and dilogues are also very good preformed with the pause and silence.

8) With which of the following observations you agree:

o   “It probably wasn't possible to make a satisfactory film of "The Birthday Party."
o    “It's impossible to imagine a better film of Pinter's play than this sensitive, disturbing version directed by William Friedkin”[3]. (Ebert)

Ans – I watched only this one movie so i can't say  anything about other movie or play. But this movie i liked . And it is well directed also.

9) If you were director or screenplay writer, what sort of difference would you make in the making of movie?

Ans -  No, i don't want to chang anything in the movie. Because in this movie director use well techniques and made it very well.

10) Who would be your choice of actors to play the role of characters?

Ans – McCann- Irfan Khan
           Stanley – Nawaszuddin Siddki
           Goldburg- Anupam Kher
           Petey – Paresh Rawal
           Lulu- Kangna  Ranaut
           Meg- Tabu

                                                                                                                                                                                                  Thanks.

9/11 is very important date , because many important events took place on that day in the history and all are recorded very well.

Movie review of Rang De Basanti

15 August, 2017
This Independence Day film screening committee organized the film screening of Rang De Basanti , at department of English, MKBU. This movie directed by Rakeysh Om Prakash Mahra, film released in 2006 . In Indian freedom struggle had two faces , that violence and non violence. In this movie violence are there, they not followed “ Ahimsa”. The moral of the story is “Charity begens first at your home”. This movie talks about the struggle of foredoom fighter likes Chandrshekhar Azad , Sahid Bhagatsingh, Bismil, Khan and Durgadevi, as well as movie talks about many things related to the contemporary time of society also.
All the actors played very vital role. We can study this movie through various literary dimensions or theories, for example post colonial theory. Movie start with symbolically representation of Linin Book, it’s suggest Bhagatsing as a Marxist. Naksus of politics also there. Making of Documentary is very well present and how beautifully movie made. Technically this movie is very good. Background shows through the documentary that documents are required . This movie present custodian of culture. Camera work also very good, very well express outsider point of view through camera. Flashback technique use very well.
During watching this film we find that how the concept of “ All my sons” by Arthur Millar is also connected .This movie very well present the power of youth. Good satire on Political world . it is Really very good movie, I learned so many things from the movie and enjoyed a lot.
“Koi bhi desh perfect nahi hota ese perfect banana padta hai, jo hota hai use bardas karo ya zimedari uthav or badlav karo”.

Breath by Samuel Beckett

  Respected sir,

Here is my interpretation of the play “ Breath”

Breath is notably short stage work by Samuel Beckett.  It is a 30 or 32 seconds play. So the interpretation of this play is little bit hard . Many plays made on this subject under the title of Breath. It is post modernism art, it’s  shows the effect of world war two, suffering of humans and etc.
Breath the title itself suggest that it’s about human life, because ultimately breath is a journey from life to death. After watching various video of this play I found various interesting things which directly connected with our life. So in the video of modern interpretation we can find that how the symbolically various prop use like toys – for childhood, then working or monotonous life, then spectacle – for old age, so it’s shows human journey and at the end garbage, so it’s present the death. And try to present some important aspect about life that what is the purpose of life, why we are here? Waiting for death also we can say.
In Damien Hirst’s video we find and feel the inhalation and exhalation of human’s breath, and the child’s crying, and swastic it is directly connected with politics and Hitlar, and garbage. So it is about nothingness of life. Life is nothing but waste. It’s talked about death. So we can say  that our life is  meaningless like a garbage. Absurdity of life, and try to ask the question on human Existentialism.
So we can interpret on this way also that we always west our life or time on rubbish things, and like garbage we come on Earth , just live and die.
In most of the videos many things use same way as symbols like, darkness use it’s symbolically represents nothingness, child crying, light for hope, day to day’s  things like fruits and medical garbage, human breath, day and night for routine life etc.
                                                                                                                                                                                                   Thanks.
